As images of rescues from the epic flooding in southeast Texas made their way around the nation over the weekend, it was clear that emergency personnel had their hands full. For those of us who hunt and fish, it was not surprising to see so many sportsmen and women, from flats boats, duck boats to airboats, spring into action and assist with the rescues. The boating and fishing industry also answered the call, and companies like BassPro, Yamaha, Academy Sports, Cabela’s and others quickly began sending available inventory of boats and motors south. Even CSF’s Chris Horton, at the request of Governor Abbott’s office, had the opportunity to assist in locating and coordinating delivery of boats.
As the flood waters recede, the real recovery is just beginning. While many of us may not have had the opportunity to tow our boats to Texas, we can still help in a big way. All donations are being directed to the American Red Cross at: https://www.redcross.org/donate/hurricane-harvey.
