CSF President Jeff Crane and a panel of select conservation leaders, including CSF Board members Robert Model, Boone & Crockett Club; Gordon Robertson, American Sportfishing Association and Tom Baker, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation were invited to meet with the Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee on July 24 to discuss sportsmen's issues.
The purpose of the meeting was for a discussion with Senate Democrats on conservation issues affecting hunting, fishing and sportsmen's issues. The meeting also provided an opportunity to follow up on conversations from a February meeting with Senate leaders and the opportunity to outline common priorities looking forward to the next Congress.
Specifically, the wide ranging discussions included the 10-year wildlife management plan called for in the President's Executive Order on hunting. Key issues covering all aspects of fisheries and wildlife management were touched on including the Farm Bill and CRP, MPAs, the Clean Boating Act and wetlands.
Senators in attendance were all members of the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus - Committee Chairman Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), CSC Vice-Chairman Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE), former CSC Chairman Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-AK) and Senator Jon Tester (D-MT).
"This Senate Committee meeting continued the conversation with leaders in the U.S. Senate on hunting, fishing and conservation issues. We're looking forward to working with the Senators in the 111th Congress for the benefit of sportsmen. The bi-partisan Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus will always work to safeguard our traditions on Capitol Hill" said CSF President Jeff Crane.
