
During the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) annual Legislative Summit this week in New Orleans Louisiana, the National Assembly of Sportsmen's Caucuses (NASC) hosted a dinner at the historic Antoine's Restaurant. Legislators from MD, KS, NC, KY, AR, MO attended, including two NASC Executive Council members, Rep. Robin Webb and Sen. John Astle. NASC corporate partners from Comcast, Safari Club International, Shell Oil, U.S. Smokeless Tobacco, Toyota and the National Shooting Sports Foundation also attended. The dinner was sponsored by UST and SCI.
The federal policy issues of Marine Protected Areas and the Firearms and Ammunition Excise Tax were discussed as well as legislation that has been introduced in state legislatures across the country that allows for big game tag donations to terminally ill children, handicapped, and veterans. NASC will be working with SCI to develop this issue for distribution to the state caucuses in 2009.
Earlier in the day, CSF Board member Kevin O'Donovan, Director of Policy and State Government Relations invited the NASC staff and state sportsmen's caucuses to attend an energy question and answer session with the new President of Shell Oil, Mr. Marvin Odum.
NCSL is a bipartisan organization that serves the legislators of the nation's 50 states and provides research, technical assistance and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues.
